Behind the name "U-Matter CC"- A Campus Culture of Mattering & Belonging
The name “U-Matter Community College” symbolizes the important need that each and every individual has to feel a sense of belonging and mattering. A sense of belonging is the positive feeling one has when he or she feels as though they are part of something. It also includes an understanding of what is expected. When you make the transition to college, you may initially feel like an outsider. At U-Matter CC, we provide programs and services that help you to immediately begin feeling a sense of belonging to the campus community through programs such as new student orientation and welcome week.
Mattering includes an individual’s desire to be noticed and acknowledged when in the presence of others and missed when gone. It also involves knowing that others are personally interested in us and are depending on us. Students find that our intentional focus on creating a caring campus environment where they feel that they matter and belong motivates them to learn.

What if, instead of going to work, you got so good at practicing what you love to do that you figured out a way to make it your job and then every single day you woke up and someone, somewhere, paid you - just to keep practicing. Do as many things as you can until you find something that makes you happy. Then, figure out a way to do that thing all the time. Money and everything else will come accordingly.
