Integration Seminar (I-Seminar)
At U-Matter CC, we think that the liberal arts core curriculum should be more meaningful to students than just "getting general education requirements out of the way." Every semester, students are required to enroll in an Integration Seminar (I-Seminar). During this one-credit hour seminar, students meet in small discussion groups and build connections across the curriculum in the liberal arts core and the more specialized courses for their major. I-Seminars are team taught by faculty from different disciplines who are assisted by peer leaders and student affairs staff, making these courses settings for active and collaborative teaching and learning. Students talk about what they are learning, relate it to other experiences, and apply it to their lives. The first I-Seminar is the First-Year Seminar and the last I-Seminar is the Capstone and/or Service Learning Experience Seminar. These seminars are designed to foster critical thinking, civic engagement, personal character, academic development, and professional development.
